How to Read Wagering Requirements
Read a wagering requirement properly: find the base, apply the multiplier, then check expiry, maximum bonus bet and game contribution before opting in.
Work out what a wagering requirement costs in dollars before accepting a bonus. The right approach is to verify the live account information first, then compare the practical rules that affect deposits, play and withdrawals.
Find the wagering base before anything else
A wagering requirement is two things: a multiplier and a base. The multiplier is the number everyone quotes. The base decides what that number applies to, and it moves the real cost of an offer further than the multiplier does.
Three bases are common. Bonus alone is the cheapest. Deposit alone is similar in size. Deposit plus bonus is roughly double either of them at the same multiplier, because the base has doubled.
Copy the sentence that contains the multiplier and read which of the three it names. Paraphrasing is where the base quietly changes, and that sentence is what support will ask you to quote if a cashout is held.
The multiplier is the smaller half of the rule
Turnover is a volume of stakes, not a volume of losses. Meeting a requirement does not mean losing that amount. Qualifying stakes have to add up to the figure before bonus funds, or winnings traced to them, become withdrawable.
Three further clauses decide whether that volume is reachable. Expiry sets the clock. The maximum bonus bet caps how fast you can move through it. Game contribution decides whether a stake counts in full, in part or not at all.
Treat the four elements as one rule. Reading only the multiplier is the usual way an offer gets misjudged, because a modest number with a short expiry and a low bet cap can be unreachable.
Where the CrownPlay figures contradict each other
For this brand the available descriptions do not agree, and this page does not pick a winner. A campaign brief supplied to us described a two times deposit match carrying no wagering requirement at all.
A dated secondary review described something else: a four deposit welcome package with 35 times wagering calculated on deposit plus bonus, and 40 times wagering on free spin winnings. One version has no turnover; the other applies turnover to the largest possible base.
Current operator terms could not be verified, so both figures stay attributed to their sources. Until the offer card is visible inside an account, treat any wagering number in a search result as unverified reporting.
Read the terms in a fixed order
Working through the clauses in a set order stops the reading from ending early. The first three rows below determine how large the requirement is. The last three determine whether it can realistically be met.
Record each answer in a file rather than in memory. Two rows commonly sit in a general bonus policy instead of the promotion itself, which is why a promo card alone is never enough.
| What to read | Where it usually sits | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Wagering multiplier | Promotion terms, opening clause | The exact figure and the sentence around it |
| Wagering base | Same sentence as the multiplier | Bonus only, deposit only, or deposit plus bonus |
| Separate spin wagering | Free spin clause | Whether spin winnings carry a second multiplier |
| Expiry | Promotion terms or offer card | Start point, duration, and what happens at the end |
| Maximum bonus bet | General bonus policy | Per spin, per hand and per round figures |
| Game contribution | Contribution table or excluded list | Every category below full weighting |
Contribution is where pokies and tables separate
Game contribution is a percentage applied to each stake for wagering purposes. Pokies commonly count at full weighting, while table and live dealer games count at a reduced rate or are excluded. The same progress can therefore cost several times more at a table.
Check the excluded list as closely as the percentages. A stake on an excluded game normally counts for nothing, and a minority of policies treat it as a breach rather than as wasted turnover.
If no contribution table is published anywhere, that absence is a finding. Note it, and treat the offer as harder to value than one that publishes its weightings.
Decide in dollars, then keep the evidence
Multiply the base by the multiplier, divide by the maximum bonus bet, and you have a rough count of qualifying rounds. If that count does not fit inside both the expiry window and your budget, the offer does not suit the plan.
One point sits outside the bonus maths. Online casino services are not licensed inside Australia for Australian players, and the Australian Communications and Media Authority issued a formal warning to NovaForge Ltd over the CrownPlay service. The record is published at https://www.acma.gov.au/publications/2026-01/instruction/formal-warning-novaforge-ltd-crownplay
Archive what you accepted. A dated capture of the terms in force at the moment of the deposit is the most useful document you can hold if a balance is later adjusted.
A simple process
- 1Open the full promotion terms rather than the banner and copy the wagering sentence word for word.
Live details can vary by region, payment method and account status.
- 2Apply the stated multiplier to the stated base, then compare the result with your session budget.
Pay particular attention to eligibility, expiry, wagering and cashout conditions.
- 3Save a dated capture of the terms before the deposit, not after a dispute starts.
Gambling should remain affordable entertainment, never a way to recover money.
Online casino services are not licensed domestically for Australian players. Offshore consumer protections and dispute routes may differ. Check current law and the operator’s licence details before proceeding.
Questions Australian players ask
Does a higher bonus percentage mean a better offer?+
Not by itself. A large match with wagering on deposit plus bonus can demand more turnover than a small match with wagering on the bonus alone. Compare turnover in dollars first.
Which base should I assume if the terms are unclear?+
Assume the most expensive reading, deposit plus bonus, and ask support to confirm the base in writing. Vague wording is a reason to wait rather than to guess.
Do free spins carry their own wagering?+
Often they do. The dated secondary review of the CrownPlay package described spin winnings sitting under a separate multiplier from the deposit match. Read the spin clause on its own.
What counts as a qualifying stake?+
A stake on a contributing game, placed inside the expiry window, at or below the maximum bonus bet. A stake failing any of those conditions may count for nothing.
Is the CrownPlay bonus wagering free?+
That cannot be confirmed here. A supplied campaign brief described a no wagering match; a dated review described 35 times wagering on deposit plus bonus. Verify the live offer card yourself.
